Ce que Yasmina Khadra doit à Tahar Ouettar

Reçu, ce 10 avril 2010, de Jonathan Klein, professeur de littérature à Bakersfield, en Californie, ce message où il est question d’une autre affaire de plagiat, plagiat reconnu cette fois par Yasmina Khadra et inscrit sur le site d’une encyclopédie en ligne. Je le reproduis ici tel qu’il est (mais il ne faut pas le dire à Grégoire Leménager) :

« Yasmina Khadra also published several early novels under his real name. Two, Houria and Amen ! (both 1984) were published in Algeria. He published three more novels under his real name, one in France—De l’autre coté de la ville (1988; The other side of the city)—and two in Algeria : La fille du pont (1985 ; The girl on the bridge) and Le privilège du phénix (1989; The privilege of the phoenix), Written during his youth, at age twenty, Le privilège du phénix was blocked because of the presence of a character in the novel named Llaz. He was accused of plagiarism and the novel was withdrawn. It was many years later and only after he made changes that this novel was finally published. Though Khadra refrained from mentioning the name of the writer who accused him of plagiarism, it was in all robability AL-TAHER WATTAR, author of the novel Al-Laz (1974). According to its author, Le privilège du phénix is a modest novel, « managed in an acceptable manner and partially completed » (Ghellal, 2004, p. 310.)

« Yasmina Khadra a aussi publié plusieurs romans sous son vrai nom. Deux, Houria et Amen ! (tous les deux en 1984) ont été publiés en Algérie. Il a publié trois autres romans sous son vrai nom, un en France (De l’autre côté de la ville (1988; The other side of the city) – et deux en Algérie : La fille du pont (1985 ; The girl on the bridge) et Le privilège du phénix (1989; The privilege of the phoenix.) Écrit dans sa jeunesse, à l’âge de 20 ans, Le privilège du Phénix a vu sa parution bloquée à cause d’un personnage dans le roman nommé Llaz. Il a été accusé de plagiat et le roman a été retiré du commerce. Ce n’est que bien des années après, et seulement après qu’il eut effectué des changements, que le roman fut finalement publié. Bien que Khadra n’a jamais voulu dire qui était l’écrivain qui l’accusait de plagiat, il s’agit, selon toute probabilité, de AL Taher Wattar, auteur de Al Laz. Selon son auteur, Le privilège du Phénix est « un roman bâti de façon acceptable et partiellement achevé. » (Ghellal, 2004, p. 310.)
